Rustenburg Project 2013
Next time you visit Sacred Heart, please take a moment to look at the display at the back of church, about the Rustenburg Project. As part of our Covenant with the Poor, we support the people of the Diocese of Rustenburg inSouth Africa by raising funds during Lent.
This display focuses on 3 areas: the Tapologo Hospice built by the Diocese of Rustenburg for those people who are terminally ill with AIDS, the orphans’ party and, finally, some of the people who communicate on a regular basis with Sr Maire.
It is over 30 years since Sr Maire first went out to South Africa and, whilst there have been some improvements, there are still many thousands of adults and children dying each year from AIDS related illness: there are still millions of children living in poverty. Despite what we might consider dire conditions and a potentially hopeless future, these people remain happy, optimistic and eternally grateful for the help given to them by our parish.
Over the coming weeks and months this page will be updated with further details of life in the villages and some of the news which the local people send to Sr Maire as well as correspondence from the priest Fr Anthony the Director of Project Sr Magdalen Marie.
