CAFOD's Connect2 scheme is a project which links parish communities in England and Wales with poor communities overseas and provides a personal way to put our faith into action. With Connect2, you can hear directly from local people and find out about their lives in their own words. Parishes in our deanery of North Sheffield have been establishing a Connection with Elk Salvador, and on Friday 10th November at 7pm, Sacred Heart is holding a Family Games Night fundraiser with Bingo, a Quiz, and a mini Beetle Drive. Tickets are £5 for adults, £2 for children or £14 for the whole family and include special Salvadorean refreshments. Come along and join us. Tickets from Ailsa Rodgers.

Remembrance Day, Saturday 11th November. Hillsborough Churches are holding a service in Sacred Heart Church at 10.45am, followed by procession across Forbes Road to the Memorial Hall, a wreath will be laid at 11am.

Parish Christmas Fayre Saturday 25th November 2017: We need your help to support the Christmas Fayre.
Please consider if you can help in any of the following ways. RAFFLE: Prizes are needed for the draw, do you have any new item's/ unwanted gifts / unused vouchers that you could donate for use as a prize? Do you know anyone who would be able to make a donation for use as a prize? SUPPORT AT THE FAYRE: Can you help to run a stall or serve refreshments? Volunteers are needed to run the stalls and activities on the afternoon. It would be great to have sufficient volunteers to cover the stalls in "shifts" so that everyone also has some time to enjoy the Fayre.If you have your own idea for a stall / game / activity you would like to run on behalf of the parish please get in touch. FUNDRAISING ITEMS: Do you have any new / as new item's that you could donate for fundraising at the Fayre? PREPARATION AND CLEANING AWAY:Can you help with the preparation on the Friday evening, or with clearing away on the day. OTHER IDEAS: Is there anything you would like to have at the fayre? Walsingham Trip: The Walsingham Association hopes to run a coach to Walsingham on Friday, 8th December, the feast of the Immaculate Copnception, picking up at St. Gerrard's, Thrybergh at 6.30 a.m., St. Mary's Herringthorpe, 6.35, Sheffield, Pond Hill, 7.00, Handsworth 7.10, Dinnington 7.30, returning for 7p.m. Cost is £17 with optional midday dinner for £10.50. HARC Volunteer Recruitment: This year's project will run from Sunday 24th December through to Monday 1st January. Operation Christmas Child Do you want to take part in the shoebox appeal this year? In the hands of local churches, every shoebox gift is a powerful tool helping to transform the lives of children and their families around the world - not only bringing joy to the child who may otherwise never receive a gift, but also showing that God loves them. In the church porch, you will find information leaflets and shoeboxes to take away and fill. You can use your own shoebox, if you wish. Instructions about gift-wrapping are in the leaflets. Please return filled boxes by 26th November. If you wish to contribute but cannot fill a box, please leave your gifts in the collection box in the porch. Thank you.

End-of-Christmas Party and New Year Pub Lunch

  1. Our parish council has considered suggestions for ways in which we celebrate Christmas socially. We propose moving on from the sit-down Christmas dinners that we have had in the past, and having two events instead:
  2. a party involving a children's entertainer presenting a show and holding a circus skills workshop, with a shared lunch in between, on Sunday 7th January after Mass in the hall (the Feast of the Epiphany). Tickets will be issued, £2 per ticket, £1 for children, £5 a family ticket (to pay for the children's entertainer).
  3. a pub lunch somewhere locally where people can attend and pay for their own meals, on a weekday, around the end of January, when prices may be more reasonable than seasonal, and it's a quieter time of year when people might welcome something going on. More details to follow.

Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress “Adoremus” Liverpool 7 - 9thSeptember 2018

The bishops of England and Wales will hold a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool next year. Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church. Participants will engage in a series of sessions focusing on different dimensions of the Eucharist and the daily celebration and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Echo Arena in Liverpool - which can accommodate 10,000 pilgrims - will be the home to a six-hour stage programme on the second day of the Congress, which will include a Congress Mass, keynote speakers and a drama highlighting the beauty of reverence and devotion. The day will conclude with Adoration.

  1. Holy Communion Sundays in May 2018: 13th and 20th. Preparation takes place in a programme of children's sessions on Sunday mornings in the spring. A parents' information evening will be held on Monday 27th November at 7pm in Sacred Heart Hall. Application forms are available at the back of church (yellow A4 paper) if you would like to take one and return it to Fr Shaun

Parish Emergency Food Pantry: The people who rely on the food pantry are very grateful for your support. The number of requests for help made at the door is currently running at about 50 per week. If you wish to contribute to the food pantry, there are three ways to do this: 1. Purchase cans and put them in the box at the back of church. There is a list of popular items in the box. 2. Make regular donations by standing order with a reference of “food pantry”. The parish bank account details are: HSBC, sort code 404107, account number 21094319. 3.Donate by cash / cheque in an envelope marked “food pantry” and put it in the box at the back of church. Please note: all cheques should be made payable to “Diocese of Hallam – Sacred Heart”. There are some marked envelopes at the back of church for this purpose. Many thanks for all your help, including new standing orders received. It really is much appreciated by local people in need.

Gift Aid: The tax the parish can reclaim from HMRC is an important source of income and we would like to encourage any taxpayers who do not currently make their offering under Gift Aid to consider doing so. It is the best way of increasing your offering without it costing you more, since currently, the government will increase each £1 of your personal offering by a further 25p.For the parish to reclaim the tax on your offering, you, the taxpayer, need to make a Gift Aid declaration and we, the parish, need to have a record of the date and amount of your offerings. Offerings can be by standing order, cheque or cash in a numbered offertory envelope. Your Gift Aid Declaration will cover all donations recorded by the parish, including for the Food Pantry. You will find Gift Aid declaration forms at the back of church near the hymn books. When you have completed the form, please hand it either to our the presbytery or drop it through the letterbox. Please be assured that the administration of Gift Aid is completely confidential. If you have any questions about about Gift Aid, please call Janina Klapas on 2312300. If you are considering making a gift to the Church in your will, information can be obtained by contacting the presbytery. Thank you for your continuing support. It is very much appreciated.
