Fr Shaun writes: “After this Easter Sunday morning Mass I am going to retire from full-time priesthood. I am very grateful to you all in Sacred Heart parish and school for your friendship, generosity and kindness over the last 22 years, and especially your gifts and blessings for my 50th anniversary three weeks ago. I thank God for a varied and enjoyable working life, some really good friends and family, and a great network of mutual support in Hillsborough and Sheffield. We are very blessed here with Fr Michael, Deacon Tony, Sister Maire, the parish council, the school staff, and the countless volunteers who do such valued work for God and the community. Please forgive me for the things I haven’t done, or haven’t done well, and thank you for making an old man very happy. May you find God in all things, especially God’s peace.
Sr Maire writes: On Easter Sunday Easter eggs will be raffled and chocolates on sale. In South Africa millions of people live in severe poverty. The Church picks up the short fall. In the HIV and AIDS programme, the Church employs nurses and carers to take care of the patients. If they are short of funds they are unable to carry out this invaluable mission, as has happened recently. This project helps to buy school uniforms and shoes for children. Training is provided for brick laying, plastering, sewing, and knitting. There is training in parenting to help families. There are numerous ways that your money can help. Please be generous. Last Sunday’s raffle & sale raised £43.50. Thank you for your support, Sr Maire.
Beer and Brass Charity Night on 16th March raised over £400 for CAFOD’s Connect 2 El Salvador project. Grateful thanks to Andrew Hartley and his team who inspired and worked so hard for this fundraiser, and to the (training) Oughtibridge Brass Band who turned out in force with other local band players to provide an excellent evening of great entertainment conducted by the magnificent Tony Woodley. Great beer and fish and chips too. Thanks too to the supporters of the event who raised the funds for El Salvador, thanks to one and all.
