Sacred Heart Presbytery: We are aware of rumours circulating that the presbytery is to be sold. This is NOTthe case. The diocese is currently assessing what refurbishment work is required at the presbytery and this mightinvolve it being closed for a short period of time whilst the work is carried out. We will update everyone via the newsletter once the extent of the work is known and what, if any, short term disruption there might be to the use of the presbytery by the various groups.

A Pilgrim’s Tale:Listen to the personal and deeply spiritual account of one of our parishioner’s experience as a volunteer helper at Lourdes last year. This audio version of the booklet “A Pilgrim’s Tale” tells of the unexpected healing and remarkable encounters with God’s loving grace that has now become a Pentecost in our own times. Further chapters of this remarkable story will be uploaded to the Church website each week throughout May and can be experienced by clicking on the button “A Pilgrim’s Tale”.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The diocese has recently inspected the church and presbytery following Fr Shaun’s retirement. This is something that is done as part of standard policy when a new priest takes over a parish. One of the actions from this is for us to carry out some de-cluttering of various rooms in the sacristy and the presbytery. There is a lot of work involved and we urgently need volunteers to assist with this. It is likely that the work will take place over three Saturdays in May (12th, 19th & 26th). Volunteers are needed for:

  • Sorting through items and clear out rooms in the church and presbytery, working as part of a group.
  • Taking rubbish to the local tip / landfill to be disposed of (a vehicle will be required).
  • Taking items to re-cycling centres or charitable organisations.

A signup sheet is available at the back of church or alternatively please e-mail us at sacredheart479@gmail.com

ATTENTION ALL GROUPS THAT USE THE PRESBYTERY - ACTION REQUIRED

If you are involved with any of the groups that use the presbytery or store items in the presbytery please can you do one of the following:

  • Mark your items / storage unit with your groups name and a contact name / phone numbers
  • e-mail us at sacredheart479@gmail.com with details of where your items are stored

Your help is greatly appreciated and will help us with the de-cluttering of the various rooms.

The bishops of England and Wales will hold a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool this year. Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church. The Echo Arena in Liverpool - which can accommodate 10,000 pilgrims - will be the home to a six-hour stage programme on the second day of the Congress, which will include a Congress Mass, keynote speakers and a drama highlighting the beauty of reverence and devotion. The day will conclude with Adoration.

If you would like to be one of six parish delegates forSaturday 8thSeptember,then please give your name to our parish

secretary Richard Cooper by email on sacredheart479@btinternet.comor telephone 0114 2343580. The diocese will be organising coaches to get to and from Liverpool.

Gift Aid: The tax the parish can reclaim from HMRC is an important source of income and we would like to encourage any taxpayers who do not currently make their offering under Gift Aid to consider doing so. It is the best way of increasing your offering without it costing you more, since currently, the government will increase each £1 of your personal offering by a further 25p.For the parish to reclaim the tax on your offering, you, the taxpayer, need to make a Gift Aid declaration and we, the parish, need to have a record of the date and amount of your offerings. Offerings can be by standing order, cheque or cash in a numbered offertory envelope. Your Gift Aid Declaration will cover all donations recorded by the parish, including for the Food Pantry. You will find Gift Aid declaration forms at the back of church near the hymn books. When you have completed the form, please hand it either to our the presbytery or drop it through the letterbox. Please be assured that the administration of Gift Aid is completely confidential. If you have any questions about about Gift Aid, please call Janina Klapas on 2312300. If you are considering making a gift to the Church in your will, information can be obtained by contacting the presbytery. Thank you for your continuing support. It is very much appreciated. Offertory envelopes are at the back of church. If you want to start using envelopes please let us know.
