Mass Book Dedications

This weekend we start using our brand new Mass Books which replace the Redemptorist Leaflet. This book is for Cycle A and we will buy Cycles B and C over the next 2 years to complete the set. In order to personalise these books to our parish and indeed offset some of the cost, Dedications are now available for purchase. A Give Net website has been set up to enable this. Labels will be printed and our own resident and talented calligrapher, Brian Marsden, will handwrite each name so they will be truly personalised!

Just simply visit the https://www.give.net/sacredheartbooks and get your Dedication started.

A donation of £4 or £5 per label is being suggested which is roughly the price of a Costa coffee, a glass of wine or indeed a Christmas selection box. Should you not be an internet user and / or cannot get your children or grandchildren to help you, envelopes for dedications and offerings will be made available soon to assist with this. What a wonderful way to remember our loved ones at the beginning of each weekend Mass! Just one final note: MASS BOOKS, LIKE HYMN BOOKS, WILL NEED TO BE LEFT AT THE BACK OF CHURCH AFTER MASS

THE EVIDENCE OF GRACE (Fr. Michaels Homily)
A Voice that Points to the Coming of Christ and his Kingdom
John the Baptist's life was fueled by one burning passion - to point others to Jesus Christ and to the coming of his kingdom. If Christianity is true, then it does not have a point other than to point to God who is the point of everythingwhy do the claims we make for our faith often seem to be unconvincing and even boring? Perhaps our lived-out faith and many expressions of it shows nothing striking and intriguing. What difference does your faith

make to how you live? Are you bearing fruits worthy of your Christian calling?
Today John calls us to ask whether our path is taking us closer to God as well as opening up for others the way to God. Smooth paths—those unmarred by false knowledge, misguided perceptions, forgotten values— help us focus on God and root out anything that keeps us from God. His good news points to the One who is all Good News and now dwells in our midst. The Good News is not a message but a person—Jesus Christ. I point beyond myself to the presence of Christ when I bear fruits of joy, peace, mercy, justice and love.

As the journey of Advent continues, as we prepare to celebrate the nativity of Christ, John the Baptist's call to conversion becomes timely. It is a pressing invitation to open our hearts and to welcome the Son of God who comes among us to make divine judgement manifest. His hard and clear words bring health to us, the men and women of this day in which even the experience and perception of Christmas often, unfortunately, reflects materialist attitudes. The 'voice' of the great prophet asks us to prepare the way for the coming Lord in the deserts of today, thirsting for the water of life which is Christ. Only Christ can bring the eternal freshness that our hearts seeks. The path God asks us to make straight is made in our hearts. John appeal is simple: Bear fruits worthy of your Christianity. Amen

Deeper in Faith:

The group who completed the Journey in Faith program last year wanted to continue their faith journey beyond the programme. We would like to open the invitation to the whole Parish. Father Michael will lead our first session on the Seasons of the Churchat 6pm, 2nd Sunday of each month. We want participants to influence this programme. We will regularly discuss subjects that the group would like to cover in future sessions, and we will do our best to find speakers to cover those topics. We hope you can join us!

Mass Bookings:

Please contact Richard on 2343580 or sacredheart479@gmail.com to arrange a Mass for a date of your choice, or give your request in writing to Fr Michael.

Centenary Celebrations:

As part of this event, a group is looking at putting together a presentation on the history of Sacred Heart Parish and we would like to get as many photos and artefacts as possible to display. If you have anything – photos or indeed any memorabilia – that would reflect the history of the parish, we would love to use them. Please leave any contributionsclearly named and securely packaged in the sacristy. Another group is hoping to put together a Parish Prayer Book and want to include your favourite prayers.

Parish Donations:

Please consider making your offertory donations to the Parish via Standing Order: Parishioners may prefer to give regularly by standing order since this is an efficient and convenient method. Theres no need for cash or to write cheques. If you would like to donate by standing order, please set this up with your bank. The parish bank account details are Sort Code: 40-41-07 Account no. 21094319. Whether you give by envelope or by standing order, if you are a taxpayer the best way to increase the value of your donations, without it costing you anymore, is to complete a Gift Aid declaration. Gift Aid allows the church to claim back from the government on your behalf 25p for every £1 you donate, boosting the value of the donation by a quarter. Gift Aid declaration forms are also available at the back of church. Please place completed forms in the Sacristy. As a church community, we are encouraged to increase the amount we give to support our church as income is failing to keep up with growing expenses. Please consider if it is possible to give a bit more. Thank you for everything you already give and do in any way
