The committee fulfils the requirements of Canon Law to support the parish priest in financial, property and administrative matters. It operates in accordance with Diocesan guidelines and within the financial limits set, is responsible for the management of parish finances and the upkeep and maintenance of the fabric of the church and presbytery. Permission must be sought from the Diocesan Finance Board for all items outside of these limits.
The committee sets the annual budget and monitors progress against this during the year, including ensuring the parish is able to pay the annual Assessment set by the Diocese each year. It is required to ensure accurate records of income and expenditure are maintained and to submit a Financial Return to the Diocese for each calendar year. It publishes the annual financial statement to the parish showing details of income and expenditure, the 31 December bank balance and any debt or deposit due to or from the Diocese. It also oversees the running of the gift aid scheme.
Meetings take place at least 3 times a year. There are subgroups, for Finance and Buildings which meet as and when necessary. Minutes of all meetings are kept. The current chairperson is Joe Watt.
Every 5 years an architect inspects the condition of the Church and provides a report which sets out areas requiring repair and maintenance. The Committee then prioritises work according to urgency, guided by the architect’s report and the available budget when setting the annual repairs and maintenance plans.
Several teams of volunteers clean the church on a rota basis. More volunteers are always needed. Contact Anita Larkin via the presbytery.
