The Sacrament of Confirmation completes our initiation into the Catholic Church. Through Confirmation, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in a new way and are strengthened to live out our faith as committed members of the Church.

At Sacred Heart we offer a Confirmation programme for young people who would like to take this next step on their journey of faith.

Who is the programme for?

The programme is open to:

  • Young people in Year 9 and above (around 13/14 to 18 years old);
  • Those who have been baptised Catholic (and normally have made their First Holy Communion);
  • Young people who want to take responsibility for their own growth in faith.

If you wish to prepare for Confirmation, this must be your choice. Being confirmed means that you are taking on your own growth in faith. It is a public witness of your belief in Christ and in His Church, so it is an important decision to make together with your parents or guardians.

If you do not feel ready to take this step yet, do not worry. There will be opportunities to be confirmed in future years.

What does the programme involve?

The preparation sessions will be held in the Parish Hall, usually about once a month. The programme includes:

  • Input and support from a team of catechists;
  • Exploring what the Sacrament of Confirmation is and why it matters;
  • Reflecting on why you personally want to be confirmed;
  • Learning about the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how they shape our lives;
  • Looking at the power of the Eucharist and what it means to belong to the Church;
  • Opportunities for discussion, questions and prayer;
  • Preparation to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation;
  • Spiritual and practical preparation for the Confirmation Mass.

You are expected to commit to the preparation and to engage with each other and with the catechists during the sessions. If you are unable to attend a session, you (or your parent/guardian) should inform the catechists beforehand.

Registration for this year’s programme closes on Friday 16 January 2026.

There is an online application form to complete if you would like to be confirmed. A parent or guardian should complete the application on your behalf.
