Flow chart to show safeguarding reporting steps

How to Report Concerns

If you are worried about a child, young person or adult at risk, please do not delay. Concerns should be passed on promptly and appropriately.

Never delay taking action. All concerns must be brought to the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator or Religious Safeguarding Lead. If you are unable to contact them and require advice, you may contact the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA).

Immediate danger

If someone is at imminent risk of harm or needs urgent medical help, please phone 999.

What to do

  1. Take the concern seriously.
  2. Listen carefully and stay calm.
  3. Do not investigate the matter yourself.
  4. Do not ask leading questions.
  5. Make a note of the concern as soon as possible.
  6. Report it promptly to the Parish Safeguarding Representative or Diocesan Safeguarding Team.
