PREPARING TO OPEN OUR CHURCH – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
There is no doubt that we are all very much looking forward to the time when we can all be back in church again … and hopefully that may not be too long. However, before anyone can return, we need to be absolutely certain that it is safe to do so, and that safety can be maintained once we open our doors again. In the first instance it has been proposed that churches will be opened just for private prayer and on a scheduled basis. Whilst this is not going to be easy, we will need to begin our preparations to ensure that the church is clean and sanitised to the proper standard to keep us all safe before we can think of opening. Once it is possible to be back in church, social distancing regulations will apply at all times until restrictions are lifted and continuous sanitising and cleansing will be required. We will also need stewards to ensure that the regulations are followed. And, as we begin to plan, we will find further roles which are needed. If you think you can help in any way at all (and are not over 70 or in a vulnerable category) – cleaning and disinfecting the church, being available to steward when church is open and any other things that might be needed, PLEASE let Fr Michael have your name and details as soon as possible so that we can get going on the preparation needed to return to our church and our sanctuary of hope!
S6 FOODBANK [website: https://sheffields6.foodbank.org.uk/]Many families and individuals are having to rely on foodbanks at this difficult time.
Over 90% of the food distributed by S6 Foodbank, which is in the Trussell Trust network, is donated by the public – that’s why food donations are absolutely vital to its ability to give everyone referred to it a balanced and nutritious three-day supply of food. Urgently needed food items are: Tinned Meat Products, Tinned vegetables and Tinned fruit. The foodbank does not take sugar. The S6 Foodbank has a distribution point on Gilpin Street opposite Tesco on infirmary Road and accepts donations of food on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11am and 1pm. Donations can also be left at various other locations including Tesco itself. The website has more details.

The Perfect Unity of the Blessed Trinity
What is your God like? What does God feel like for you? Who is God for you?
Today’s feast invites us to live in the awareness of the presence of the Triune God within us: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The mystery of the Holy Trinity, a doctrine enunciated by the ecumenical councils of Nicaea and Constantinople, is one of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity and the greatest mystery of our Faith, namely, that there are Three Divine Persons, sharing the same Divine nature in one God. Today, this feast invites us to renew our encounter with the Trinity and live out the richness and glory of God’s own life given to us by the virtue of our Baptism.
The invitation we have is; God the father is the Creator, we are invited to become co-creator by making the world a better place by changing the little corners of: the home, the family, and friends entrusted to us as spaces and places, where love flows and openness to one another endures. Pope Francis in his encyclical on the care for the earth as our common home, summons us to a profound interior conversion…Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience (LS217). What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?
Christ is our redeemer whose sacrificial love has redeemed us from condemnation. We are invited to become co-redeemer to each other, you are a co-redeemer when your words and actions heal and give a better future to your neighbour, friends and family. Christ is God with us. How available are we to each other as a church? How are available are you to your spouse? What quality of time do you give to your children? How available are you to your aging parents and the members of your own family and the family of faith? Until we learn to be available to each other in a sacrificial way our world will remain a free-range infirmary of all forms of loneliness, brokenness, bitterness and perversions. We have all witnessed the horrific murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. We also have all watched video of how Amy Cooper weaponized the police against a black man. Our hearts grieve for their families and the Black community. These situations invite us to ponder on the cancer of racism, discrimination, modern day slavery, hatred towards migrants, unfair judgement of those with different sexual orientations and do our bit to bring it to an end.
The Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier; we are invited to become co-sanctifier. We must become means of support for each other’s spiritual growth and be a community forged out of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, empowered and reaching out to the needy and those at the tougher edge of our society and the continuum of life. We are, as the Psalmist states are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” No wonder we cannot understand the mystery of a Triune God who created each one us as an unfathomable mystery.
The mystery of God is not a puzzle to be solved. It is truth to be reverenced. It is a reality too rich to be fully grasped by our minds, so while it continues to unfold; let us ask for graces to enter into a deeper relationship with God and with one another. Let us take a pledge to make the world a better, fairer, safer place for all.
